PEPSI FOOTBALL ACADEMY HOLDS FESTIVAL OF YOUTH

It was a beehive of activities
when youngsters from Pepsi Footfall Academy converged at the Agege
Multi-purpose Stadium, Lagos for this year’s Pepsi Festival of Youths. The
youngsters from all the academy centres scattered across major cities in
Nigeria were excited and full of energy for the competition.
Players for
the intra-academy competition for both U15 and U17 categories were drawn from all
the Pepsi Academy training centres nationwide competing in four zonal format:
North, East, West and Lagos.
Speaking on
the occasion of the festival, Director of Pepsi Football Academy, Dr. Kasimawo
Laloko said the idea of the festival is the bring both coaches and players in
the different centres of the academy together to celebrate the competition as
one big family.
“The aim of the Pepsi Festival of
Youth is to assess the discipline and skills development level of the players
from all the centres and also offer them opportunity to socialize among
themselves”, Dr. Laloko said.
The first
match in the U15 category saw East cruise past North on penalty shoot out after
a one all draw at full time. While Lagos had a comfortable win of two goals to
one against their West counterpart.
In the U18
category, Kaduna team humbled Aba team with four goals to nil while Lagos team beat
the Football College team by two goals.
Matches for
day two of the festival will see North verses West for third place and East will play against
Lagos for the finals in the U15 category. While Aba will play Football College
for third place and Kaduna will compete for the finals with Lagos team in the
U18 category.
The
grandfinale for this year’s Pepsi Festival of Youth will come to a climax with
an award/dinner night on Saturday 30th November at the Lagos Airport
Hotel.
