Good Morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:
1.
Very visible in the news this morning is the uproar generated in the House of
Representatives yesterday when APC member, Gbajabiamila, at the process of
raising a motion for the removal the Rivers State Commissioner of Police,
Joseph Mbu, referred to the Deputy Majority Leader, Leo Ogor as Deputy Minority
Leader, sparking off protest by the PDP until the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal
intervened, and reminded the members that there was a court order regarding the
issue of change of leadership in the House, hence such assertion was not
necessary.
2.
In his first major encounter with journalist since his inauguration as the
Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’ azu has said yesterday
(Tuesday) that all factions and differences in the PDP would be addressed as
soon as possible, emphasising that PDP is the only true detribalized party in
the country.
3. A
major news headline this morning is the nomination of 12 Ministers by President
Goodluck Jonathan. Jonathan, yesterday sent 12 names to the Senate for
confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The nominees are
former National Security Adviser, NSA, General Aliyu Gusau, rtd, Zamfara State;
former governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Boni Haruna, representing his state;
current Nigerian Ambassador to China, Aminu Wali (Kano) and former Nigerian
Ambassador to Ghana, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro (Lagos State). Jonathan, for the
first time also sent the names of newly appointed Service Chiefs to the Senate
for confirmation.

On crime this morning, Anthony Ezechukwu, 38, has been arrested by the EFCC for
cloning the Facebook accounts of the Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala;
wives of Lagos State Governor, Dame Abimbola Fashola, Federal Capital Territory
Minister, Aisha Bala Mohammed and the Director of the Abuja Geographical
Information Systems, AGIS, Jamilah Tangaza to dupe unsuspecting Nigerians.
5. Also in the news is the statement of fact by Governor of Kano State and a
leader of the All Progressives Congress, Ibrahim Shekarau, that there was no
‘agreement’ between the five Peoples Democratic Party governors (G5) that
defected to the APC and his party to make them leaders of the party in their
various states. Shekarau is challenging the party to provide evidence or proofs
of such agreement.

As tension continues to rise in Rivers State over the activities of Police
Commissioner, Joseph Mbu, and the continuous agitation for his removal,
thousands of youth from the four local government areas of Rivers state that
make up the Ekwere ethnic nationality have vowed to shutdown the Port Harcourt
Airport if the Commissioner of Police is redeployed.

The Ejigbo 2 issue got to the climax yesterday when the IG of Police, MD Abubakar
ordered detectives at the Force Headquarters to take over the case, and ensure
that justice is done. Recall that two women were allegedly tortured by some men
in Ejigbo market for allegedly stealing pepper.
8. A
major headline this Wednesday is Senator Abe’s letter to the Senate, blaming
the Federal government of encouraging violence instead of fighting to stop it.
The Senator who was shot by rubber bullet in Port Harcourt during a rally said
he was recuperating.

The meeting between the Federal government and the Polytechnic lecturers over
the ongoing ASUP strike turned rowdy yesterday when the National Association of
Polytechnic Students, NAPS, invited as observers to the meeting, accused the
lecturers of fighting for selfish interests. The disagreement between the
lecturers and the students turned the meeting into another market square as
serious argument ensued.
10.
Lastly, President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday forwarded Cybercrime Bill to
the Senate to be enacted into law so as to eradicate internet fraud in the
country. The bill however did not spell out penalties for those caught
indulging in the act.
