CREATIVE AWARD: KELANI, KUNLE AFOLAYAN, AMAKA IGWE SLUG IT OUT!

In what will, from all indications, be an epic battle, popular and well-renowned filmmakers, Tunde Kelani, Kunle Afolayan and Amaka Igwe will go head-to-head against each other in  the Film category (Production Houses, Producers and Marketers) of the Creative Industry Awards,  an initiative  of the Creative Entrepreneurs Association of Nigeria with strategic support from the British Council.

TK as Kelani is fondly called currently has the whole industry sitting at the edge of their seats in anticipation of what would definitely be an industry-defining film when released- “Dazzling Mirage.” Starring fellow nominee, Kunle Afolayan and Kemi ”Lala” Akindoju, as lead actors, the topical movie focuses on terminal  sickle cell and effects on its carriers.

Kunle Afolayan, on the other hand, started the year, running and winning. Barely days into the New Year, the movie director won an International Movie Trailer award for his yet-to-be-released movie, “October 1.”

“October 1” tells the story of a Northern Nigerian detective who is conscripted by the British colonialists to crack a series of murder cases on the eve of Nigeria's independence in 1960.

Well-known for the comedy series, “Fuji House of Commotion,” Amaka Igwe, who is also involved in film distribution and marketing is another strong contender for the award.

Already, pundits have started placing wagers on who would walk home with the award on Saturday, January 25th, 2014 at the British Council Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos.
