Spirit of Lagos champions ‘Good Neighbourliness’ cause
The
Project Director, Spirit of Lagos, Mr. Olaniyi
Omotoso, has commended Lagosians for supporting the ‘Good Neighbourliness
project, a cause it championed to encourage the people of Lagos to show love to
one another by donating items to the Gbagada-based Child Life
Line,
a non-profit, charitable association committed to supporting and enabling
vulnerable young persons at risk or in need.
Omotoso
who expressed elation at the support for the project by Lagosians, also showed gratitude
to all who donated items which included non perishable food items, educational
materials, clothes and sporting materials among many others to the cause saying
that the response, despite the short notice, was encouraging and shows that the
spirit of good neighbourliness truly resides in Lagos.
In
his words: “We are overwhelmed by what we are seeing today. Even with a short
notice, Lagosians have expressed love even to these young children who are
products of circumstances beyond them. Good neighbourliness is one of the four
pillars that the Spirit of Lagos stands on. It is through good neighbourliness
that our community can truly develop and with the donation of these items
today, these vulnerable children in Child Life Line will from today
begin to enjoy a new lease of life”.
He
said that the Spirit of Lagos will continue to support the Child Life
Line
as it seeks to empower the children, mostly between the ages of 10 and 18,
through formal and vocational education and reconnect them with their family.
In
the spirit of the Yuletide, members of the Spirit of Lagos also had a Christmas
party with the children where the children were served with food, ice cream,
popcorn and also showed their talents in dancing.
Mrs.
Sally Udoma, President, Child Life Line, thanked members of Spirit
of
Lagos
for championing such a worthy cause and called on the organization to continue
to support the charitable association in making its vision a reality.
Child life Line, according to her,
has been able to reunite quite a number of children back to their families in
the last 20 years. Some of the children according to her, had been tutored and
nurtured to be self reliant, self supporting and independent through the
provision of both formal and informal education.
