The most popular African movie trailer app, MTN Afrinolly, is set to unleash the next generation of African movie makers, on the African Silverscreen, as submission of entries for its short-film competition, which started two months ago, closes on January 31st, 2013. The competition is sponsored, chiefly, by Africa’s largest telecommunications network, MTN, to give visibility and assistance to burgeoning African talents in the areas of movie-making. As it is, the movie industry in Africa is expanding and becoming a major source of revenue, for countries like Nigeria, South Africa and Kenya, which has made the need for more skillful hands and youthful prospects expedient.

The MTN Afrinolly Short Film Competition, as it is called, is the first of its kind. With two categories, short movies and documentaries, entrants have 15 minutes to share their African stories with millions, across the world, and an international panel of judges which will shortlist the final ten (10) in each category. Viewers’ votes will decide the winners. With 100,000 Dollars in cash and prizes, across categories, this is a chance of a life-time for budding African talents. Interested individuals must create and submit a video of not more than fifteen (15) minutes duration, before January 31st 2013 to afrinollyshortfilcompetition.com. The competition is open to Africans, who are not younger than 18 years of age, as of January 1st 2013. The winners of the competition will be unveiled in March, 2013.

MTN aims to use the short-film competition platform to give a broad opportunity to the next generation of African breed of ‘screen delights’ and repositories of the continents history and culture in arts, such that the growing relevance of the African movie industry would translate into bountiful returns, in terms of revenues and full utilisation of the human capital resources.
