It is an established fact that O2 (Oxygen) is one of the most important elements required to sustain life. Without it, human health begins to suffer and depreciates to death. O2 not only gives life but destroys also the harmful bacteria in the bodies. Since it is the only gas known to sustain most terrestrial life, it is expedient that without O2, no human can still be termed living being.
Noting the importance of O2 to life and its sustenance, a CSR based advertising academy running with the name O2 was born in Lagos by a faculty of creative professionals from different ad agencies in the
country.

The academy like Miami Ad School and its likes across the world is a hands-on creative training school designed to bring the real every day workplace experience of an advertising agency to every fresh graduate with a passion for advertising.

Recently, O2 had its inaugural outing with the theme, “Formation”.  The event showcased the 2012 graduating class and their project works. A presentation of all the works by the students was an indication of hidden creative talents that have been cultivated by the academy.

Applauding the gesture O2 Academy, Alh.Garba Bello-Kankaroufi, Registrar/CEO, Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) represented by Mr. Joseph Onuorah, Head, Planning & professional Development, APCON, expresses APCON’s interest and support for the noble initiative geared towards developing creative talents for the industry.

“I find joy when I see organizations like this build and nurture talents for the industry. This should not be left for APCON alone. I appreciate and commend O2 Academy commitment to creativity especially as their training is offered to beneficiaries free of charge. I encourage all veterans to join hands with the platform for the growth of talent and creativity in the industry” says the APCON Registrar/CEO.

In his creative charge, CEO/ECD, Noahs Ark, Lanre Adisa, encouraged the 2012 graduating class to be fearless in their creative executions as it is one of the most important virtue every creative ‘animal’ must possess.

Adisa presented three awards to the best graduating student, best creative team, best copy and best art student. According to him, “the objective of the award is to promote hard work, excellence and as well as induce that competitive spirit amongst the successive students of the Academy.”

In his words, Charlse Nnochiri, Category Brand Manager Calypso, disclosed that at this time, the Nigerian advertising industry needs personal development and building capacity to take on the world to enable it become more visible in the global map of advertising.

Presenting certificates of excellence to the entire class of 2012 Mrs. Bunmi Oke, President Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) and Mr. Sam Onyemelukwe, Head Anglophone Africa, TRACE TV; the duo commended the platform the academy has provided to discover such hidden talents and charged the students to use what they have learnt to further build the Nigeria ad industry.

O2 Academy is an initiative by a team of seasoned Advertising professionals to revolutionize the ad world and to write the name of the country on the world map of advertising. ”Taking a peep into the future, we discovered that the present scarcity of creatives would definitely jeopardize the Nigerian ad industry in the near future. Hence, we decided to come together with one simple goal, “to grow
new creative ad men and duplicate ourselves in them” said Ozone Mbanefo, the Brain Initiate, O2 Academy.

O2 Academy is structured in a way that goes beyond growing ad men, it shows them why they need that growth. The academy is a 23-week hands-on creative training on copy writing and art direction strictly on practical. The five years old academy prides itself of berthing talents that are yet undiscovered in the Nigeria ad space.

The academy currently has eight steady and committed instructors and several other contributing lecturers from different ad agencies. As the Academy is free for all trainees, so does the facilitators lecture for free as their own way of giving back to the industry. The O2 Academy is fast positioning itself as the life wire of the Nigeria ad industry as it infuses the needed experience into the new and
inexperienced taking them through the tenets of the advertising industry.
