Indomie partners Lagos state government to empower students
In
reinforcement its support for the growth of education, Indomie Instant Noodles
has once again partnered the Lagos State government in sponsoring the 2014
Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition.
The
event, which took place the secretariat of the state, Alausa produced three
winners among a total of 60 primary and secondary school students drawn from 20
Local Governments (LGs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The overall
best student, Olabanji Ebun, an SS2 student of Army Senior Secondary School,
Onigbongbo, Ikeja got a cash prize of N250,000; Azeez Blessing of Kele Balogun
Senior College, Ibeshe, Igbogbo Bayekun who plemerged as the first runners up
received N150,000; while Macaulay Elijah, the second runners up was given
N100,000 by the renowned noodle brand.
“Indomie’s
support for education in the country is a longstanding one because as a brand,
we believe a nation can only be great when the system that produces its leaders
is qualitative. This is the second time we will be sponsoring the Lagos State
Spelling Bee Competition which does not only upgrade the reading habits of
students but also promotes healthy
competition among them. We can assure our
numerous consumers that this event will by no means be the last,” said Mr. Tope
Ashiwaju, PR/Events Manager, Dufil Prima Foods Plc, while highlighting the
rationale behind the event.
Ashiwaju, while
commending the winners for their intellectual capabilities, urged their
counterparts to strive for academic excellence so as to emerge winners in similar
competitions, making their parents and by extension the nation proud.
Also speaking
at the event, which was graced by Mrs. Saidat Olayinka Oladunjoye, Honourable
Commissioner for Education and Honourable Wahab Akawiye King, Chairman, House
Committee on Education, among others, Secretary to the Lagos State Government
Mrs Idiat Adebule commended Dufil Prima Foods Plc for the sponsorship, adding
that such people-oriented CSR initiatives were the catalysts for the growth of
education in Lagos.
“We urge other
companies to do likewise for the sake of our dear children, state and country
as a whole,” she said.
